You are so right. My husband and I went to GM Security and they were so bold in giving us a so called Anti Terrorism Certificate that did not even have the Company's name on it. My husband took it to a reputable security company who did not accept the certificate.

They are many companies out there trying to get people back into the workplace environment.
And Yes they are many companies out there just trying to get your money the dirty way.
If you are a determined person to accomplish certain goals and get yourself Straight.
They offer Training with Job Placement for all students, and just like a few of the anonymous post stated. If you are determined and follow directions from the Job Placement Coordinator there should be no reason why you cant ATTAIN a job just like the other accomplished students that received training and landed a job after job placement.

#1 before attending classes find out there Job Placement Rating.

#2 dress for success everyday, if you wear your jeans off your a$$ and you only know HOOD, how are employers going to take you serious?

#3 devote your time & energy to landing a job. If you have this much time to post negative comments about a company helping those get back into the workplace environment, your not helping yourself.

#4 Be your OWN motivation for success and stop being a deterrent

#5 Update your resume together, complete your GED and if your Job Placement Coordinator give you money to get a haircut and belt don't smoke it out.

PT. $ - Good Bad Ugly - MY GM Security Experience

i was just reading thru the other posts...
the black dude in my story whos name i forgot - it is Mr Trottman!!!!

Mr. Trottman has the greatest poker face ive ever seen, you cant tell if hes happy, sad... nothing. its like hes made of stone. The guy is a total robot, BUT he delievers! Hes the one that took the time out for me and my friend and made sure we found a place to work. Not to sound corny, but Mr. Trottman saved me from eviction... if i started working 2 weeks later than i did it would have been a wrap for me.

Disclaimer - He cant do much to help you if you aren't serious, coachable, well put together with a proper resume.

by: Anonymous

So was GM BS? ehhh no... but I know alot of the students were... they all seemed to be looking for a hand out. GM would have saved them selves a headache if they turned more people away.

So overall My Experience was positive, I got the training I needed, I got a security guard license and a steady 40 hour a week job. Now I have the experience I need and when January hits ill start looking for a better paying job... cause by then ill have 4 months of experience.

PS id still love to get my money back - that course was hella over priced - BUT you know what else is overpriced? Movie Theaters, Strip clubs, Parking Lots, Most Restaurants, The Subway, Time Warner Cable, Shots at every bar in NYC, Starbucks, even the dollar store aint a dollar... we willingly spend extra every day, so what’s everyone crying about. if you got your 8 and 16 you should have got a job somewhere... as long as u knew how to speak, dress and were determined to get a job, you would have gotten one. I know several other GM students who are also still working.

SO IS GM A RIP OFF? No - just overpriced like everything else in NYC - and as for having classes while suspended.... not the smartest move - but I have driven a car with a suspended license... it was a chancy thing to do. These guys just made a stupid mistake. But I still got a job... pays sh!t but it still pays - that’s GM Security - now give me my money back! LOL

- now the guy that sent people out - (forgot his name but he was a black guy) he was totally impersonal and robotic... that was annoying - HOWEVER if u forced him to talk like a human and you got to the point and he could see that you were serious, well dressed, (didn’t have ur pants under your ass) - he would go the extra mile for you, call the site and send you out.

Would I invite him to a BBQ? Christmas dinner? NO - but he did his job and he had to deal with ignorant people all day so I get why he was a robot.

RESULT OF GM Security - I am now a State Licensed Security Guard. My job sucks BUT I have a job and now I have 2 months of steady NYC experience.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO GET A JOB???

4 days... I hit the pavement with a friend I made at class (a big guy that asked too many questions - HINT HINT) and for 3 strait days we went to every GM Security lead together... NOT A SINGLE PLACE HIRED US!.... Then we did what that school advised us to do. WE DIDNT GIVE UP, we went back to talk to that black dude again even tho the place was about to close... I told him "Bro, no one with hire us cause we don’t have experience... please send me to a sh!t hole, I don’t care if it pays $5 an hour... I need experience"

He told us to hold on... and gave us a lead with a company that has a large hospital and drugstore contract. He said "go there tomorrow. Its not the best job, it wont pay well but if you are willing to do the work it will at least be a start."

GUESS WHAT??? My friend and I went the next morning - got hired on the spot and we both started working with in 72 hours, Uniforms and all (yes I bought my own shoes lol)

OK, i am not employed by GM Security. (Lets make that clear)

I am going to simply state the pro's and con's of my experience. PAY ATTENTION.

First off i could give a damn about GM Security, i just simply used them as a stepping stone to get what i needed. i was a GM student in Aug 2011 - i had about 20 to 40 people in and out of my class -

NOTE: the spanish pro army teacher called me Marc Anthony all the time - so there is a hint for you as to who i am. so if you were in my class;
WHAT UP!

Also, i would still like my money back - why? cause it was expencive.

HARSH FACT OF GM SECURITY (Since all of you seem to like the negative )

- Overcrowded Classes (some times there werent even enough seats)

- They were egar to take my money

- SOME of their staff members guarenteed employment (but EVERY SINGLE supervisor made it clear that they were just there to give you the tools and assist you in getting interviews)

- Many people they trained(the Students) dressed sloppy and looked like total idiots, i wouldnt have let them guard an empty pool - so they should have had stricter policys.... while sitting in there i could tell most of thoes morons would never get hired. SO when u see a company taking money from hopless ignorant morons... well i guess thats not the best thing to do but they gave everyone an equal oppertunity.

- Given the conditions it seemed very over priced - i paid $400+ dollars got my 8,16 & Fireguard

So we proved that your suspension is real and you are falsely taking money from poor people in need of jobs. what do you have to say for yourself?

If you dont reply with a conscious answer within the next few days with a DETAILED explanation and a plan to give everyone their money back,I'm contacting some production assistants that I met doing a real security job on a T.V show with Spike and have them "out" every single one you.
And if the building is empty by the time the camera's show up- its okay,I have the names of everyone I talked to.

Please for your own sake, post a respectful response in a timely manner.

by: Jose R.

This place gm security WAS an approved security security school until august 1st, 2011. They have been suspended for violating new york's security guard program laws. Here's the link:

http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/ops/docs/sgtraining/pubs/sgpapprovedschls.pdf

If anyone reading this paid them money after august 1st get your money back because accepting people's money while suspended is ILLEGAL. File a consumer complaint if they refuse to give you a FULL refund.

Why Are They Offering Employment When They Are A School?

People who are looking for work STAY AWAY from this company. They are con artists posting jobs on job sites they don't have. There "job placement director" sends you to an actual employment agency not associated in any way with gm security. The REAL job placement directors at the legit employment agencies don't even look at gm security's "referrals".

Research The Any Agency Before You Go
by: Anonymous

There are some security schools who will pose as "employment agencies" in order to get your money. This company gm security is one of them. Some of their administrative reps don't even look like they finished high school. This administrative girl named Melendez said I would need to take a class for "employment". They are just a school and are not even affiliated with any of the employment agencies they send you too. Save your $80 and go to a security school in brooklyn. They are cheaper than security schools in manhattan. But research that company first though.

GM Security is not a scam.
by: Elizabeth Becker

So Monday, July 14, 2011, I applied to GM Security through snag-a-job.com. They called me immediately for an interview. Now, it was perfectly clear to bring my social, resume and they clearly told me a fee of $80.00 was needed for the training and $30.00 out of the $80 will go to Albany for a background and criminal check. They also mentioned they will provide me with uniform and I will have to provide my own black shoes. The next day, I went to the interview and the person explained to me exactly the same as I heard over the phone. I did pay for the training (you might call me a fool). It all paid off though, I am now working for GM Security, they sent me today to a cite and I just look forward to my check, lol. This is my first time working as a security and its ok. But its defanitely not a scam, it does sound like a scam but its not. Plus, I've worked for AFLAC Health Insurance and they charge $300.00 for there training program. I don't think companies charging for a package in order to work for them is a scam, they've just found a way to get money from interviewing. Plus, getting this security certificate allows you to search for a sec. Job anywhere on your own, you don't have to work through GM Security, and elsewhere, security certification is wayyyy more than what GM is asking for so I took advantage of it.

GM!!!!Horrible
by: Anonymous

Agreed, this company is definitely filled with fraud. The sad thing is this type of preying on people desperately seeking employment is the rule rather than the exception in this city.

I received a call from this company after submitting a resume on-line to an employment site. After about ten (10) minutes with the individual who phoned me my gut instinct was....are you crazy.....who pays for an interview for a position as an receptionist? Next I'm informed about certifications required, offered through GM. When I inquired as to the cost, I was informed it is not appropriate to discuss cost over the phone.

Run run as fast as you can!!
if it sounds ridiculous it is. What legitimate company advertising a job ask for money in advance. One would do better to enroll in a school that is recognized by the state and offers financial aid. Who has money to pay when they are unemployed. Hopefully Department of Labor or whoever is the overseer of these scams will get on the ball.

by: Anonymous

People of the public this person that is out to get us is from another security company who is in competition with us. please do not feed into these lies. The money is a deposit for whatever training an individual is taking with our company. YOU ARE NOT PAYING FOR AN INTERVIEW OR A JOB. Job placement is issued to the individuals for free and the individual is told that the day of the interview. We do not take any money from an individual, if we know that we cannot help that individual get a job and get that person certified. If you do decide on coming down for an interview feel free to ask whatever questions you like and you will see that we will not lie to you. We are honest and we are here to help. the economy is really bad right now. The only jobs that are out here right now is nursing and security jobs. Feeding into this negativity will make you not want to get certified and license and take advantage of good job placement. GM SECURITY will be here with you until you get employed, we will not hide and give you attitude. We ask that you be patient with us and positive. We will help you get a good security job. There are over 300 security companies in New york state and everyday they are hiring. The thing about that is, THE COMPANIES DO NOT ADVERTISE. So if the companies don't advertise how will you find the job? let me tell you. through our resources. We have 84 for locations for job placement. Take advantage of job placement and see were it takes you. You have nothing to lose because you had nothing to begin with. Let Gm help get you the best security job possible and get you certified. THEN WE CAN PROVE THESE LAIRS WRONG.

I wonder if GM Security has a criminal background we need to know about
by: Anonymous

Its considered a sign of guilt by criminal investigators when they question a potential suspect and the suspect yells the whole time without giving a proper response.

Why do you feel the need to type in all CAPS?
These people have simply asked you a question and you've done nothing but simply say " It's our policy", and say that their all out to get at you.

That just comes across as someone with a guilty conscious trying to cover up what their really up to.
What company charges a FEE to interview?
If you were a reputable company you would have the person go to the State department and let them pay for the back ground check and fingerprints,THEN come in for an interview for proof that they do not have a criminal background.

So why is it you charge a fee again?
Can you prove that you've placed anyone in a job?
How so?
Instead of yelling at everyone who feel's like they've been ripped off, why dont you try to intellectually inform them what the money is for and where it goes.

It's simple. And from what I can tell you are a fraud.
I had an interview the other day and to be honest I didnt feel like ANYONE there interviewing me looked to be legit.
Appearance is everything and you guys seemed way to eager to sit me down and talk about money before you even looked at my resume. Actually you didnt even really do that. You just fed me a line of what sounded like a rehearsed script, promising me 18 bucks an hr if I promised to pay over 800 bucks.

Yeah you remember me? I was the one who wasnt an idiot and I'm glad that most people walk out on you after the interview is over feeling good that they trusted their gut feeling and didnt get taken advantage of.

Reply to this company NOT being a scam
by: Anonymous

If you have a website with people who all share the same story about a non refundable deposit then why dont you reconsider your policy about refunds if your a reputable company?

One thing I know for sure and that's that you NEVER have to pay to work.
This is not a union and staffing agency's charge the customer and pay the employee a lowered rate.

I think the general public would like to know where does the deposit go to? What is that nominal fee used for and why is it so important that you cant give it back?
And why is it called a DEPOSIT when DEPOSITS are meant to taken back.
It seems like that deposit is how you all get paid for your time in the office. I bet the owner of the office gives you a percentage and she keeps the rest no?
Your company is a scam and its news worthy.
I know because I'm an employee of this company and I'm informing the news of what you've all been doing to people.

Your making more money by charging a fraudulent fee rather than placing people with jobs.

I had a bad feeling
by: A sucker wasnt born today

Something kept telling me that this company didnt seem right.
I just gave them the benefit of the doubt that this was a reputable security firm.
I've had previous experience in security as well as personal security, just not in NY.
They down played all of my resume because none of the experience was in NYC, and then they proceeded to tell me that the fee's were all due before I got a job.

From what I understand you can go to the DMV and apply for a security guards license for about 170 bucks.
There is no need to attend their class. From what I can see,its just a low to mid level money racket that will either get busted or cost some people their lives or at the very least- personal safety for ripping off poor people searching for stable income.

I saw a man asking for a note to give to the courts to say he was going to get regular work.
He had been waiting hours and the people kept giving him the runaround.

Bunch of unprofessional ghetto fabulous thugs in cheap slacks and wrinkled shirts masquerading as a high end agency.
Laughable at best.
I politely told them that money was tight and that I wasnt interested in giving them over 400 bucks for a license I can get from the state for alot cheaper.
Do yourself a favor and dont be that " sucker thats born every minute" in the Big Apple.

From what I understand you can go to the DMV and apply for a security guards license for about 170 bucks.

theyre fraud
by: GM sucker

companys making money by manipulation... they say all u wanna hear but on their agreement, its a different story... egreement is the only thing that matters.... all positive comments are from their agents... this company is a fraud.... their belief sysytem teaches them it is not a sin what u do to an unlearned man.... which basically means if u can fool someone, it is not a sin, its actually the uneducated persons fault.. when i walked inside, there were no real job candidates, there were a bunch of early college underpriviledged kids... easy money.... they took 80 dolllars from me, but im letting them know, that money aint kosher....

GM WAS INCREDIBLE!!!
by: Anonymous

I went to Gm security and took my 8hr, 16hr, Fireguard, Metal Detection, and I also obtained my CPR and my Terrorism Awareness training. They set me up for my fingerprints the very next day and my license is here already. Im WORKING NOW, and oh yeah all my information got processed through the department of criminal justice and albany has my unique ID number. Im still in contact with Mr Trottman now for additional resources and I advise anyone with a brain on there shoulders to hurry and get PLACED.

YEAH SO WHOEVER DIDNT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE JOB PLACEMENT THEN GOOD LUCK...GOD BLESS
